I hope this is the right place to post this - it's not really that big of a deal but it's something that I noticed. I keep forgetting my password (my own fault I know - that's not the problem) and I have to reset it. However when I go to reset I get the warning about my IP address being blocked for repeated log in attempts.

I realize this is needed and important to have however there's no warning when I try to log in that my IP address will be blocked if I keep trying to log in more than X number of times. I'm not sure if this behavior (that there's no warning - not that I'm being blocked) is intentional or needed for some reason. I think it would be helpful to know how many times I can try a password before I'll be blocked. Especially since I'm sure I only tried logging in two or three times.

Sorry you're having trouble. This is not, however, an official comm.

For a problem like this, I'd suggest you visit the support page. There, you can search to see if there's a solution already posted. If not, there's a link near the bottom of the page to open a support request.

Minor issues are okay. That's why we have a whole team of support volunteers. And, really, login issues seem like more than a minor issue to me. You can't use the site if you can't log in!

Thanks for pointing out the link issue. I moved the /b and forgot to also add the /a. Fixed now. :)

Official support policy says, "We'd rather hear about something for the 50th time than not hear about it at all."

And if you're having trouble and getting frustrated, maybe others are, too. We want to make the site as happy, accessible, and user-friendly as possible.

So... yeah. May take a little while to make any changes to the system, but that's because we are still in beta.

Meantime... see if you can come up with a more memorable password. ;)

No problem. And it's not a huge deal, really. It's not like your IP address can be used to magically track you. At a quick glance, I can go to Sam Spade and learn that you're in Connecticut and using Comcast, but that doesn't really tell me too much, you know?

It is useful, though, for anti-spam purposes. It's what the spam team does when spam is reported - put a ban on the IP that produced the comment. (A basic ban, for starters, that just requires filling out a CAPTCHA before a comment can be posted.)

please do report this as a bug - I've had similar issues, and the more info we can get on when this problem crops up, in what browsers, etc, the easier it is for the heroes behind the scenes to pin it down and fix it.
